Samir Patil is the publisher of Scroll, a digital news publication that now has more than 10 million unique visitors a month, more than any other web-only news site in India. Scroll’s goal is to add critical perspectives to these stories through rigorous reporting, objective analyses, and expert commentary.

He is an entrepreneur who also founded ACK Media (2007-12) which published the Amar Chitra Katha and Tinkle comics in India. Under his leadership the venture expanded from a publishing house into a media company that created India’s #1 online destination for children’s programming, mobile games, TV shows, and films, in partnership with Time Warner and Disney. ACK Media was sold to Future Ventures, the investment arm of Future Group, in 2012. Prior to ACK, Samir was an Associate Partner at McKinsey & Company, New York. He was educated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Samir launched Scroll.in in January 2014, along with journalist Naresh Fernandes. From the time Scroll has come into existence, it has not only gained credibility in creating strong editorial thought pieces but also stressed on having a strong technology to back the content on the web. Over the years the strong machine learning and tech team has been working on few products and SocialWire is the first consumer facing product powered by tech and editorial team.

In June 2014, Scroll partnered with Atlantic Media to launch Quartz India, an edition of Quartz focusing on business news in the Indian subcontinent. In 2015, Hindi media publishing company Satyagrah merged with Scroll, and the website started hosting Hindi-language content.
